PINE TREE COTTAGE ![]() Pine Tree Cottage in the tiny village of Bladnoch is less than a mile from Wigtown, the National Book Town of Scotland. The traditional stone-built cottage faces the River Bladnoch where you can enjoy a leisurely riverside walk, and just up the road is Scotland's southernmost whisky distillery and a congenial pub & restaurant. Whether you like browsing through bookshops, walking or cycling in the countryside, mountain biking at nearby Kirroughtree, exploring nearby sandy beaches, fishing, photography, painting, birdwatching, local history or just relaxing... all this and more is available here in the Machars, which some have called "the land of sheep and rainbows". Across the river in the Bladnoch Bridge Estate new creative small businesses are reviving the former Victorian era creamery, including an art studio, a glass design and jewellery workshop, blacksmith, recording studio, book warehouse and a maker of cast iron stoves. Art workshops and use of studio space can be arranged for parties visiting the cottage. ![]() Pine Tree Cottage is an ideal base for touring the region or just relaxing and exploring the nearby villages and countryside. It has two double bedrooms, oil-fired central heating, a fully equipped modern kitchen and a Baxi real flame fire in the spacious living room, with plenty of comfortable seating. One of the couches opens into a double bed allowing the cottage to accommodate a maximum of 6 people. Pine Tree Cottage was named after a large conifer in the rustic back garden which has an umbrella-ed picnic table and chairs so you can eat outdoors, weather permitting.
